SDF and YPJ commanders Jiyan Tolhildan, Roj Xabûr and Barîn Botan, who were targeted and killed by Turkey after attending the Forum on the 10th anniversary of the Women's Revolution in Rojava on July 22, 2022, were laid to rest with the participation of thousands.

Speaking at the funeral ceremony, the Council of Martyrs' Families member Edla Misto said, “We are alive today thanks to the sacrifices of our martyrs. They were the leaders of the revolution. They resisted the genocidal attacks and frustrated every attack faced by them. Now, we are responsible for following their paths.”

“We live by paying the price”

Sozdar Derik, an YPJ commander, also made a speech and said that women have been shielding themselves against every attack. “Every day, we live by paying the price. The fascist Turkish state keeps carrying brutal attacks in our region against the friends of Kurdistan across Kurdistan and these attacks are carried out against all freedom lovers.”

“They adopted the philosophy of free life”

In her speech, Sozdar Derik talked about the life and resistance of her comrades Jiyan Tolhildan, Roj Xabûr and Barîn Botan. “They adopted the philosophy of free life,” she said. Underlining that the women leading the Revolution in Rojava are deliberately targeted, Sozdar Derik said, “The Turkish state, which violates human rights, uses chemical weapons every day in the mountains of Kurdistan. It attacks North and East Syria by using drones. They deliberately target the women, who resisted ISIS and played an important role in the women’s revolution.”

After her speech, Democratic Union Party (PYD) Co-chair Asya Abdullah made a speech. Speaking about the important roles of the three female revolutionary commanders in the Revolution in Rojava, she said that the perpetrators of the attack are Turkey and NATO since Turkey is a member of NATO.

After the speeches, three female commanders were laid to rest at the Martyr Medya and Dijwar Cemetery. Ceremonies for three commanders were also held in Shahba and Dirbesiye.
