Qamishlo- Syrian Center for Research and Protection of Women's Rights documents rights violations against women in the areas occupied by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions. The center has released a report on the rights violations against women and children in the occupied areas in the last 11 months.

24 women and 10 children were killed

According to the report, 24 women and 10 children were killed in the areas occupied by the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions from January 1 to November 20. 22 women and 14 children were kidnapped; eight women and 23 children were injured from January 1 to November 20, the report said. “97 people were killed, 195 people were kidnapped and 51 people were kidnapped in the last 11 months,” the report added.

 ‘Many crimes against humanity have been committed’

NuJINHA spoke to Aynûr Paşa, lawyer of the center, about the report. Recalling that the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions occupied Afrin in 2018, Serêkanîyê (Ras al-Ayn) and Girê Spî (Tell Abyad) in 2019, she said, “Many crimes against humanity have been committed in Afrin, Serêkanîyê and Girê Spî since they were occupied.”

‘Our reports are based on the information received by us’

Speaking about the reports prepared by the center, she said, “Our reports are based on the information received by us. As it is known, there is a serious media blackout in the occupied areas and fear among the people in these areas. We receive information from reliable sources in the occupied areas. We are in contact with many reliable sources to confirm the crimes committed against the people in occupied areas.”

Aynûr Paşa also talked about the killed and kidnapped women in the last 11 months. “Most of women were killed and kidnapped in Afrin. According to the Human Rights Organization of Afrin, a 16-year-old girl named Rindê Lezgin was kidnapped by an unidentified armed group while going to school yesterday morning. A child was kidnapped one day after World Children’s Day. We heard that the girl was released after her family paid a ransom of 4,000 dollars. However, the information has not been confirmed yet.”

‘The Turkish state commits war crimes’

Aynûr Paşa added, “Although the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions commit war crimes in the occupied areas, they go unpunished for their crimes.”
