131,000 Iranian children married in five years!

More than 131,000 children under the age of 15 have been married in Iran in the last five years, according to the report released by the Statistical Center of Iran.

The children, who are forced into marriage, are left under a heavy burden before they know themselves and life. And this causes endless trauma for them. In Iran, more than 131,000 children under the age of 15 have been married in the last five years, according to the report released by the Statistical Center of Iran.

Child marriage increases

More than 7,500 children got married last summer, according to the report. The Statistics Center of Iran has disclosed that since 2017, an average of 30.000 girls under the age of 15 get married annually. 123 boys under the age of 15 also got married in the past five years, the report says.

The Statistics Center of Iran previously reported a 10.5 percent increase in the marriage rate of girls aged 10 to 14 in 2020 compared to the previous year. 9,753 young girls between 10 and 14 were married in the spring of 2021, the Statistics Center of Iran reported.
