Filiz Kerestecioğlu: inequalities deepened

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Filiz Kerestecioğlu held a press conference at the Turkish Grand National Assembly on rights violations in Ankara.

Ankara- Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Filiz Kerestecioğlu held a press conference at the Turkish Grand National Assembly on crimes against humanity and rights violations in Ankara.

At the press conference, Filiz Kerestecioğlu emphasized that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on people and it has deepened the inequalities.

“A full lockdown of the nation should be imposed by providing a basic income to every citizen.  They (AKP Government) say there is no money but there is money. They should decide how to spend it. 3 million dollars was spent on two city hospitals in Ankara. We have been indebted not only for now but also for the future. We know how to take these debts from those cause them.”

Underlining that the most basic way to reduce the spread of COVID-19 infection is vaccination, Filiz Kerestecioğlu said that vaccination appointments have been given to a late date and she demanded a solution to be found to solve this problem as soon as possible.

Unemployment rates are increasing

Filiz Kerestecioğlu drew attention to the increase in unemployment rates. She said the Code 29, a legal way to circumvent the layoff ban amid the pandemic, is used as a threat.

“The workers take to the streets everywhere to demand their rights and to make their voice heard against the Code 29. Right now, this is our situation in the world. In many countries, the coronavirus cases increased but they managed to reduce them. But the number of the cases in Turkey is very high now.”
