Shahba- Since July 2024, the Turkish state has deployed its army, tanks and other weapons in the town of Amadiye, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The Turkish state aims to occupy the territories of the Kurdistan Region by building checkpoints and military outposts.

In the region, more than 100 villages have been evacuated due to fires caused by the Turkish attacks. The recent Turkish attacks started following the meeting between AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iraqi officials. At the meeting, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) made a deal with the Turkish state for the attacks on Medya Defense Areas. Since then, Kurdish people have organized protests and activities and raised their voices against the deal.

In an interview with NuJINHA, Şaziye Ibrahîm, member of the Social Justice Council of Afrin-Shahba, commented on the ongoing Turkish attacks on Southern Kurdistan and the deal between the KDP and the Turkish state.

‘The KDP paves the way for the occupation’

Şaziye Ibrahîm defines the cooperation of the KDP with the Turkish state as a betrayal against the Kurdish people. “The KDP paves the way for the Turkish state to occupy the territories of the Kurdistan Region by cooperating with the Turkish state. The history of the Barzani family is known for its betrayal against the Kurdish people. The Barzani family always puts our children and our lands in jeopardy by paving the way for the occupation. The aim of the Turkish state is to start a war among the Kurds. The KDP easily hands over the territories of Kurdistan to the Turkish state. The villages of Duhok Xakûrke are evacuated and occupied. We strongly condemn the betrayal of the KDP.”

‘Betrayers always lose’

The KDP is controlled by the USA, Russia and other countries, Şaziye Ibrahîm emphasized, adding, “The main aim of Erdoğan is to occupy the Kurdistan region by deploying his soldiers. We will never allow him to implement his plan. We will always struggle to have a free and  dignified life. Our children fighting for the freedom of Kurdistan will definitely achieve great success because they fight for their country and Kurdish identity. As Kurds, we have adopted the 'Berxwedan Jiyane (English: Resistance is Life)” slogan. Therefore, we say that betrayers always lose. We call on the KDP again to give up betraying the Kurds.”

Call on the Kurdish people

Şaziye Ibrahim also called on the Kurdish people to “stand against the betrayal and occupation. We call on all Kurdish people in the Kurdistan Region to resist. The KDP is condemned to lose and those who resist betrayal and occupation will prevail.”
