“Empowerment women’s participation in political life” workshop by AWO

Only 19 percent of parliamentarians in the Middle East and Arab countries are women, Arab Women's Organization Manager Dr. Fadia Kiwan said that women's participation in political life should be empowered.

News Center - Arab Women's Organization (AWO) has held a workshop entitled, “Empowerment women’s participation in political life” with the cooperation of UN Women. The workshop, also attended by male parliamentarians, aims to shed light on the factors and means that empower female parliamentarians to discuss women's issues.

“If the organization gets stronger, our gains will get stronger”

Arab Women's Organization Manager Dr. Fadia Kiwan made an opening speech of the workshop. In her speech, Dr. Fadia Kiwan said that encouraging women to participate in political life, supporting women to monitor elections, integrating women into monitoring standards and ensuring women's participation in political life mean empowerment women’s struggle and gains.

Only 19 percent of parliamentarians are women

Dr. Fadia Kiwan shared the number of female parliamentarians in the Middle East. “We are happy to see the number of the female MPs in some countries such as Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia and Sudan is above the Middle East average with 25 percent,” Dr. Fadia Kiwan reported that only 19 percent of parliamentarians in the Middle East and Arab countries are women.
