Amed - Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) announced the foundation of Amed Women’s Council at the meeting held in Demir Hotel located in Diyarbakır’s Sur district with the motto, “We are organizing for our freedom”. The members of the Free Women’s Movement (Tevgera Jinen Azad /TJA), HDP and Democratic Regions Party (DBP), HDP Women’s Council Spokesperson Ayşe Acar Başaran, HDP Diyarbakır MPs Remziye Tosun and Semra Güzel attended the meeting. The photographs of Deniz Poyraz, who was killed in the attack on the HDP Izmir office, and a banner reading, “We are organizing for our freedom”, were hung on the wall of the meeting hall. After observing a minute’s silence for Deniz Poyraz, the meeting began. HDP Diyarbakır Provincial Co-chair Gülşen Özer made a short speech and she said they would respond to the pressures with their organization.

“We will struggle by bringing the killers of women like Deniz to account”

After the speech of Gülşen Özer, Ayşe Acar Başaran took the floor, “The ruling party and its junior partner are very aware that they cannot cope with the struggle of women. Because of this, they are attacking our party. Attacking the gains of women is the politics of the government. While the world was thinking about what they could do to end the pandemic, the government (AKP) thought “how can we eliminate women's gains”. The organization of women will protect us, women, against the male-dominated system. We announce the declaration of Amed Women’s Council to give our response to these politics from Diyarbakır. We will struggle by bringing the killers of women like Deniz, Gülistan and İpek.”
