New indictment against Aysel Tuğluk

A new indictment has been prepared against Aysel Tuğluk on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” over the statement of a person.

News Center- Kurdish politician and lawyer Aysel Tuğluk, who has been suffering from dementia, was released from Kandıra No. 1 F Type Closed Prison on October 27 after the Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK) reported that she cannot stay in prison. After her release, a new indictment has been reportedly prepared against her on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office over a statement of a “witness”.

The statement after eight years

The witness named Turgut Taşkıran gave a statement to the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on January 17, 2021, claiming that Aysel Tuğluk helped him after he was wounded while ISIS attacked Kobanê in 2014. In the statement, Turgıt Taşkıran claimed that he had been wounded in his leg while changing the house he was in when ISIS attacked the city in 2014. “The YPG members took me to the border and handed me over to Turkish soldiers. I received treatment at the Suruç State Hospital. That time, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Aysel Tuğluk and Faysal Sarıyıldız visited me and asked me where I wanted to go,” he said in the statement.

He claimed that he was taken to Cizre

In his statement, Turgut Taşkıran claimed that he wanted to go to Diyarbakır; however, Aysel Tuğluk and Faysal Sarıyıldız told him if he went to Diyarbakır, he would be arrested and offered him to take him to a hospital in Qamishlo. Turgut Taşkıran claimed that Aysel Tuğluk and Faysal Sarıyıldız took him to Cizre.

She faces 15 years prison sentence

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor Office, which demands up to 15 years prison sentence against Aysel Tuğluk in the indictment, demanded the file be merged with the trial held by the Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court. The demand has been accepted by the Diyarbakır 4th High Criminal Court.
