Journalist Ayşe Kara acquitted

Journalist Ayşe Kara has been acquitted of terrorist charges against her.

Amed- Final hearing of the trial against journalist Ayşe Kara on the charges of “being a member of a (terrorist) organization” was held by the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court today. Journalist Ayşe Kara didn’t attend the hearing while her lawyer Resul Temur attended.

The prosecution demanded a prison sentence against her

The prosecution demanded a prison sentence against Ayşe Kara on the charges of “being a member of a (terrorist) organization” and “propagandizing of a (terrorist) organization”. The prosecutor stated that Ayşe Kara was a delegate of the DTK (Democratic Society Congress) and that DTK was established to realize the aims and objectives of the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union). The prosecution also cited Ayşe Kara's membership of the KJA (Free Women's Congress) and ÖGC (Free Journalists' Association), which was closed down by a statutory decree, as evidence.

Her lawyer Resul Temur demanded Ayşe Kara be acquitted. Ayşe Kara has been acquitted by the court.
