Hearing of child abuse case adjourned to October 9

The hearing of the trial against Hiranur Foundation’s founder for forcibly marrying off his six-year-old daughter to a 29-year-old man in 2004 has been adjourned to October 9.

News Center- The fifth hearing of the trial against Yusuf Ziya Gümüşel, one of the founders of the Hiranur Foundation for forcibly marry off his six-year-old daughter to 29-year-old  Kadir İstekli in 2004 was held by Istanbul 2nd High Criminal Court at Anatolia Courthouse (Anadolu Adalet Sarayı).

Before the hearing, a dispute broke out between the lawyer of Yusuf Ziya Gümüşel and Filiz Saraç, head of Istanbul Bar Association, and other lawyers. The dispute ended after police intervention. The court has adjourned the hearing to October 9. It is expected that the court will issue its final decision at the next hearing.

H.K.G., the daughter of Yusuf Ziya Gümüşel had filed a criminal complaint claiming that her father forcibly married off her to 29-year-old Kadir İstekli when she was six. Thus, the Anatolia Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the incident. After the investigation, an indictment was prepared by the Anatolia Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the indictment was accepted by the Istanbul 2nd High Criminal Court at the Anatolia Courthouse. Kadir İstekli faces more than 67 imprisonment while Yusuf Ziya Gümüşel and his wife Fatima Gümüşel face more than 22 imprisonment.
