News Center - A lawsuit was opened against Ayşen Ece Kavas, Fidan Ataselim, Nisa Kör, Seda Elhan Barbaros, Sevda Yeniköylü and Yaprak Okatalı for replicating Chilean “Las Tesis” protest anthem in Istanbul’s Kadıköy district on December 8, 2019. The women faced up to three years in prison.

Today, the women attended the hearing of trial held by the Istanbul Anatolian 29th Criminal Court of First Instance. Six women have been acquitted by the court.

After the hearing, We Will Stop Femicide Platform issued a press statement in front of the courthouse.  “Those who commit crimes are those who do not implement the Istanbul Convention. We all know who have committed crimes,” said Fidan Ataselim, the secretary-general of the platform.

Six women’s lawyer Tuba Torun also made a statement and said, “This result is a right result of unfair judgment. The repressive mentality should stand trial not women.”
