Artistic tribute from Tunisia honoring the strength and resilience of Palestinian women
Amid growing tragedies, art remains the people's voice. In Tunisia, “Mother of the Martyr” testifies that Palestine lives in supporters’ hearts and that the Palestinian woman remains steadfast as a beacon of strength and freedom.
News Center — In the heart of Tunis, directly in front of the Palestinian Embassy, rises a striking monument made of reinforced resin, depicting a young Palestinian woman, head held high, dressed in traditional Gaza attire and waving the Palestinian flag.
This memorial, inaugurated on December 13, 2023, and titled “Mother of the Martyr,” is far more than an artistic installation. It is a cry of resistance — an eternal message of solidarity with a people enduring relentless killing and destruction.
Tunisian visual artist Hussein Al-Muqaddadi, in collaboration with sculptor Shukri Al-Toujani, chose to immortalize the Palestinian woman not as a victim, but as a symbol of strength, dignity, and patience. The work took twenty days of effort and creativity, resulting in a statue standing 4.5 meters high and 4 meters wide — towering in the same steadfastness as the woman it represents.
The choice of traditional dress and the iconic keffiyeh was no coincidence. It was an affirmation of identity and an insistence on preserving a heritage that the occupation seeks to erase. The statue received wide praise from the public and critics alike, not only for its artistic beauty but for its profound message.
It emerged as part of a broader movement of solidarity aiming to honor the Palestinian woman — she who raised generations of resisters and stood tall in the face of injustice
