Zeynep Kınacı, nom de guerre, carried out a suicide attack in Dersim on June 30, 1996. “The action carried out by Zilan was beyond expectations. I can be a militant and a follower of Zilan from now on,” said Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan after her action. Zilan has become a symbol of the Kurdish Women’s Freedom Movement.
