Mobilization in NE Syria: Women protect their streets
All people, especially women, support the call for mobilization against the attacks by the AANES. “It is time to protect and defend our existence,” say women in Hasakah, who protect their streets.
RONÎDA HACÎ
Hasakah- On December 1, 2024, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) declared a general mobilization in response to the attacks of Turkish-backed factions on Shahba/Afrin canton of North and East Syria. Following the declaration, women living in Hasakah, a city in the Jazira Canton of North and East Syria, formed a team to keep watch on the streets and neighborhoods of Hasakah.
Despite all the violent attacks on North and East Syria, the people of the region wage a war of resistance against the attacks. People from all ages are at the forefront of the resistance. Women, who protect their streets and neighborhoods, say they will thwart the dirty plans against the AANES by uniting.
‘We defend our neighborhoods’
Dirty policies are being carried out against North and East Syria, said Zakiya Muhammed (45), a member of the team, stressing that the unity and solidarity of women will thwart these dirty plans.
“We have gone through many difficult times. The enemy has tried to occupy our region at every opportunity. The people and mothers in Hasakah displayed great resistance against ISIS. We stand with our fighters and defend our neighborhoods street by street whenever we are attacked. Mothers unite and protect their streets and neighborhoods against all kinds of attacks. We are always ready to defend our country and our gains because it is time to exist and protect our existence.”
In her speech, Zakiya Muhammed called on the Kurdish people to unite against the attacks. “Kurdish people must unite, protect and defend their existence. We should remember that the whole world is united against the Kurdish people.”
‘We organize ourselves based on the ideology and philosophy of leader Apo’
Following the revolution in North and East Syria, all women began to organize themselves based on the ideology and philosophy of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, Kelthûma Muhammed said, adding:
“As the mothers of the revolution in Rojava, we organize ourselves based on the ideology and philosophy of leader Apo (Abdullan Öcalan). We lay down our life to have a free life with dignity. Today, we keep watch on our streets and neighborhoods to protect and defend our homeland. It is time to organize ourselves more and act in the spirit of the revolutionary people. This is the only way to protect ourselves and defend our region against the attacks. I call on everyone to protect and defend this region.”
‘We are determined to thwart the attacks’
Women play an important role in defending their region, Xena Emîn said, expressing her feelings and thoughts with the following words:
“Women are at the forefront of the resistance against the attacks on North and East Syria because the revolution in Rojava was led by women. Therefore, women play a leading role to protect the gains of the revolution. We are determined to thwart the attacks. Since the beginning of the attacks, we have kept watch and protected our streets and neighborhoods. As the people of Hasakah, we will resist by defending our region. I call on the people of North and East Syria to protect themselves and defend their region."
