Morocco- Latifa Ziwani grew up in a ceramist family in the city of Safi, a port city on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. The city is known as the pottery capital of Morocco. The ceramic art is considered a heritage in the city. In the city, you rarely see women working in pottery workshops because this sector is always considered as a men’s sector. However, Latifa Ziwani was determined to work in this sector and now she is a well-known ceramist in the city.

She has been interested in the ceramic art since her childhood

Being interested in the ceramic art since her childhood, Latifa Ziwani told us she had struggled to work in her family business as a woman. Stating that her father always respects the decisions of his children, she said that her father used to bring clay home and allow her to play with it since her brothers did not allow her to enter the pottery workshop.

She has held many exhibitions

Latifa Ziwani studied literature at university. But her interest in ceramic art never ends. She spent her free time in the workshop by making pottery and painting them when she studied at university. Since being professional in making pottery, she has held many exhibitions in many countries such as Russia, Canada, the Middle Eastern countries and Europe countries to display the Moroccan heritage. Latifa Ziwani also wrote a book on ceramic art. She also contributed to the establishment of the National Ceramics Museum in Safi, where potteries signed by her family are exhibited.”
