Women visit earthquake survivors in Narlıkuyu
Women activists from Amed have visited Adıyaman’s Narlıkuyu district to be in solidarity with the earthquake survivors.
News Center- Members of many women’s organizations in Amed (Turkish: Diyarbakır) have arrived in the Narlıkuyu district of Sêmsûr (Turkish: Adıyaman) to be in solidarity with the women affected by the earthquakes that struck Turkey, Kurdistan and Syria on February 6, 2023. Some of the women visited the tent city in the district are: The Free Women’s Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) activists, Rosa Women’s Association president Adalet Kaya, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-chair Saliha Aydeniz, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Amed MP Remziye Tosun, members of the Amed Peace Mothers Initiative, HDP former Amed MP Çağlar Demirel and Rengin Ergül, Secretary General of the Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD).
After visiting tent by tent, the women loaded humanitarian aid on the trucks. They will distribute humanitarian aid to the earthquake survivors in the villages today. Rosa Women’s Association president Adalet Kaya made a speech at the tent city. “The International Women’s Day is one of the most important days for the women's struggle. It is also one of the most important days for us, for the Kurdish women. Today, we are in Adıyaman. The devastation in many cities of Kurdistan was caused by the system. We have seen once again how important women's solidarity is. We will strengthen the struggle to build a new life. Our anger will turn into a great struggle. We are here to struggle,” Adalet Kaya said in her speech.
Drawing attention to the fact that the state did not fulfill its responsibilities, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-chair Saliha Aydeniz said in her speech, “An autonomous and alternative life is possible.”
“Today, they ask for the blessing of the earthquake survivors. We do not give our blessing to them. We will bring those who blocked humanitarian aid to account. They left women alone and we will bring those who left women alone to account. We will bring those who declared the state of emergency to account. The philosophy of 'Jin jiyan azadi' will be chanted everywhere. We will build an alternative life and a communal life based on gender equality. We will struggle to the end. The women’s struggle exists and it will always exist.
After the speeches, the women departed from Adıyaman city center to villages in order to distribute humanitarian aid and be in solidarity with women affected by the earthquakes in the villages.
