“Women, Life, Freedom” symposium held by Rojava University
The Rojava University held a symposium entitled, “Women, Life, Freedom and People Revolution” to mark the International Women’s Day.
News Center- The Rojava University held a symposium entitled, “Women, Life, Freedom and People Revolution” to mark the International Women’s Day. The women attending the symposium wore their traditional clothes and men also showed great interest in the symposium.
The symposium started after the speech of Jineology Academy member Zozan Sima, telling the history of the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” chanted by all women around the world. In her speech, Zozan Sima drew attention to the etymological and sociological connection of the relationship between women and life, adding, “Women are always the source of life.”
After the speech of Zozan Sime, Democratic Union Party (PYD) Presidential Committee member Foza Yusif made a speech on Kurdish women's history, Kurdish women’s struggle for freedom and the gains of Kurdish women.
Women from Afghanistan, Rojhilat Kurdistan and Iran also participated in the symposium. All participants highlighted the impact of 'conservatism and sexism' on life and women's struggle for freedom.
‘The resistance of the Kurdish women is a role model’
Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) member Şekufe Umîd participated in the symposium from Afghanistan. Expressing her admiration for the fighting and organized stance of Kurdish women, she said, “The gains of Afghan women achieved by struggling for years have been tried to be destroyed by the Taliban.” In her speech, she also talked about the resistance of the Afghan women against the Taliban. Baloch writer Laebeh Aram stated in her speech that they get inspired from the Kurdish women’s struggle for freedom and that the resistance of Kurdish women is a model for all women around the world.
