Kobanê – On June 10, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced in a written statement that it would establish a tribunal to prosecute more than 10,000 foreign ISIS members according to regional and international laws.

In the statement, the AANES stated that they would prosecute foreign ISIS members according to regional and international laws because they had called on counties to repatriate their citizens, ISIS members held in prison; however, their call remained unanswered.

After the announcement, the families of the fighters who lost their lives in the struggle to liberate the areas under the control of ISIS and the families of those killed by ISIS, announced their support to the decision of the AANES. NuJINHA spoke to the families of those who lost their lives while fighting to liberate the Euphrates Region from ISIS.

‘Our pain is being renewed day after day’

Emîne Yasîn, who lost her son in the operation to liberate Manbij, said, “My son Çiya lost his life three days before the liberation of Manbij. My son was killed by ISIS snipers. Seven years have passed since Çiya lost his life but our pain is being renewed day after day. I will never forget what ISIS did. As a martyr's mother, I want ISIS members to stand trial and be punished for their crimes. ISIS members committed the Kobanî massacre in June 2015. My brother was killed in the massacre. His children visit his grave every day. I get more angry whenever I see them. We will participate in the prosecution process of ISIS members.”

‘Why are thousands of ISIS members still here?’

Necma Kenco, mother of YPG fighter Aram, told NuJINHA that they want ISIS members to be prosecuted in Kobanê.

“Thousands of our children lost their lives while fighting to defeat ISIS and liberate our region. Thanks to our children, we live in Kobanê now. I want to ask, ‘Why are thousands of foreign ISIS members still here?’ The countries do not repatriate their citizens, ISIS members, because they are afraid of their own citizens. None of us can forget the atrocities of ISIS. Children, who lost their fathers, always ask where their fathers are. Some children were born after their fathers were martyred. We will never forget what had happened and never forgive those who supported ISIS. I want ISIS members to be prosecuted for their crimes.”

‘Countries do not repatriate their citizens, members of ISIS’

Son of Sewlî Hisên was also brutally killed by ISIS. “After the liberation of Kobanê, our fighters went to liberate Sirin town from ISIS. My son Yılmaz joined them and fought to the end. My son was beheaded by ISIS and his head was taken to Sirin by ISIS. After Sirin was liberated from ISIS, his comrades brought his head. If I could, I would punish ISIS members with my own hands. Countries do not repatriate their citizens, members of ISIS. We have given them water and bread for years. These ISIS members must now be prosecuted.”
