West Bank children denied education amid violence, restrictions

Movement restrictions imposed by Israeli forces in the West Bank, alongside escalating violence, are preventing children from accessing education, UNICEF reported.

News Center – The education system in the West Bank faces an escalating threat as rising violence and imposed restrictions deny thousands of children their right to learn, potentially leaving an entire generation illiterate.

UNICEF said on Tuesday, 9 September, that children in the West Bank are increasingly struggling to access education due to movement restrictions and the intensifying violence. The agency noted that the current situation leaves children in a constant state of fear and anxiety, negatively affecting their mental health and disrupting their educational progress. UNICEF emphasized that every child’s right to education must be guaranteed and safe, without exception.

Israeli forces continue to escalate military operations against residents in the West Bank, alongside what is described as ongoing acts of mass destruction and a siege-driven humanitarian crisis in Gaza for nearly two years. These attacks have so far killed at least 64,605 civilians, mostly women and children, and injured over 163,000 more, with figures still incomplete.

Thousands remain trapped under rubble and in the streets, as rescue teams are unable to reach them due to continuous bombardment and the tight blockade. Meanwhile, famine has claimed the lives of dozens, the majority of them children.
