Sit-in protest by mothers of YBŞ fighters
Mothers of five Shengal Resistance Units fighters, who were captured by the Iraqi army on March 18, 2025, started a sit-in protest in front of the Iraqi Intelligence Center in Shengal on Wednesday.

News Center- On March 18, 2025, the fighters of the Shengal Resistance Units (Kurdish: Yekîneyên Berxwedana Şengalê, YBŞ) were ambushed by the Iraqi army in Shengal (Sinjar) while they were on duty. In the clash that broke out between the YBŞ fighters and the Iraqi army, five fighters of the YBŞ were injured and captured by the Iraqi army.
Sit-in protest
Despite all the efforts by politicians, well-known people in society and religious leaders, the YBŞ fighters have not been released by the Iraqi army. On Wednesday, the mothers of the five YBŞ fighters started a sit-in protest in front of the Iraqi Intelligence Center in Shengal, demanding the release of their children.
The mothers held two banners reading, “We will never bow down to the government’s tyranny” and “Our sit-in will continue until our children are released”.
