Kobanê- Capitalist modernity has caused chaos and wars in history by organizing itself into nation states

The cultural richness in Kurdistan and the Middle East have intertwined with social life for thousands of years, building a common life. Despite all the denial and genocidal attacks of the capitalist system, this reality still shows itself in society. Nation states have developed their systems to suppress uprisings and oppress people.

The mindset of nation-state poses a threat to society, said Sedîqe Xilo, member of the Jineology Research Center in Kobanê.

“The system built by nation states is totally different from the system built by democratic nations. The mindset of the nation-state is a rooted system dated back to the Sumerians based on slavery. This system is the root cause of all problems.”

Solution of Abdullah Öcalan

Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan developed the concept of the “Democratic Nation” against capitalist modernity as a model based on democracy, equality, autonomy and communal life. The system of the democratic modernity is a system aiming at building a peaceful life and social peace.

An alternative way

In North and East Syria, this system is considered as the most important and biggest revolution that has taken place in the public consciousness. The system of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) is also the most meaningful system created by the people in northeastern Syria. In the region, women are the main actors of the democratic nation concept.

“A democratic nation cannot be built without women’s freedom, participation, presence and thoughts,” said Sedîqa Xilo.

“Today, capitalist modernity uses people as modern slaves to easily control societies. Instead of dealing with important social problems, it makes societies busy with superficial and meaningless issues. Undoubtedly, women are at the center of this system. This system knows very well that if it enslaves women, it will enslave all societies. This system cannot be broken down when women are free.”

“We will keep struggling to build a free and democratic life,” said Mizgin Xelîl, member of the AANES t Executive Council in Euphrates Canton.

“As the people of North and East Syria, we believe that the system implemented in northeastern Syria is a model protecting our culture, identity and social existence. As Kurdish, Arab, Turkmen, Syriac and Armenian people living in North and East Syria, we demand a decentralized Syria.”
