Qamishlo- Şilêr Committee for Children has launched a campaign with the motto, “Our Children are the Hope of the Future” to protect children against all forms of attacks. The announcement of the campaign was made in front of Qamishlo Peoples’ Municipality. People held banners reading, “No to violence against children”, “Our children are the hope of the future” and banners symbolizing children subjected to violence in the ongoing war in Syria.

“Children have right to live free”  

“Children are the future and hope of humanity,” Sîlva Şêxmûs said, “Children have the right to live free from birth. This right should be protected for them. As the Şilêr Committee for Children, we have launched a campaign with the motto, “Our Children are the Hope of the Future” to protect children from violence, abuse, and child marriage.”

“The lives of children should be secured”

Children face violence every day due to war and poverty in the Middle East and all around the world, Sîlva Şêxmûs said, “Some regions of NE Syria are under occupation. The attacks of the occupiers and the migration conditions negatively affect children and put their lives at risk. Hundreds of children lose their lives, are injured, and suffer from trauma due to the attacks. Thousands of children have been subjected to forced displacement. We must protect our children from all forms of attacks and ensure a free and equal life for them. We call on UNICEF and other organizations for children to protect the children against the occupation causing their deaths.”

Activities for children

The committee member Cûliya Xelo drew attention to the effects of war on children, “As the Committee for Children, we want to draw attention to the problems faced by children and to eliminate them. We will hold activities for children in Qamishlo, Newroz Camp, Topiz and Tenûriyê.”

The committee will hold activities in different regions to draw attention to the rights of children within the scope of the campaign that will last until October 23.
