JINNEWS: 26 women were killed by men in July

26 women and two children were killed, nine more women and four children died under suspicious circumstances in Turkey last month, according to JINNEWS, an all-women news agency based in Amed (Diyarbakır).

News Center- In Turkey and Kurdistan, the cases of violence, killing, harassment and rape against women and suspicious deaths of women continue to increase. JINNEWS has released its July report on femicide by compiling news from local and national newspapers, news websites and news agencies.

 In the report, JINNEWS, an all-women news agency based in Amed (Diyarbakır), said that the cases of gender-based violence increased because of the masculine language of the government and that  impunity and the reductions in prison sentences encourages men to commit crimes against women.

26 women and two children were killed, nine more women and four more children died under suspicious circumstances in Turkey last month, according to the report. “In July, nine of 26 women were killed by their husbands, seven by their partners, three by their sons, two by their ex-husbands, two women by their relatives, one woman by her fiancé and one woman by her male colleague,” said the report.

JINNEWS also highlighted that the number of women killed in July may be more.
