News Center- Branch 39 of Iran’s Supreme Court has once again upheld the death sentence handed down to labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi, her lawyer, Amir Raisian told Shargh, a daily newspaper in Iran.
Branch 39 of Iran’s Supreme Court had previously overturned the death sentence for the labor activist.
Sharifeh Mohammadi was sentenced to death by Branch 1 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court on charges of “armed rebellion against the state” on July 4, 2024. On October 12, 2024, the Supreme Court overturned the verdict, citing numerous issues, including the lack of evidence linking her to any armed operations, the failure to prove membership in armed groups, and serious flaws in the intelligence service’s report.
However, Branch 2 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court sentenced Sharifeh Mohammadi to death again on February 13, 2025, based on the same intelligence service’s report.
“We expected the Supreme Court to overturn the ruling again, but unfortunately, it did not,” said Amir Raisian. “We still hope for a retrial and will pursue all possible legal avenues to stop the execution.”
Sharifeh Mohammadi was arrested from her home in Rasht by agents of the IRGC's intelligence on December 5,2023. On July 4, 2024, she was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Rasht on charges of “armed rebellion against the state”.
