Egyptian judo champion killed in apparent domestic violence in Alexandria
A brutal crime has shocked the city of Alexandria after judo champion Dina Alaa was killed inside her apartment by her husband, sparking widespread outrage across Egypt’s sporting community.

The incident occurred on Sunday, August 17, when the body of Dina Alaa, a judo player for Alexandria’s Smouha Club, was discovered inside her home. According to security sources, she was found with three gunshot wounds, while her husband was discovered beside her with a gunshot injury. Their two children were inside the apartment at the time of the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the husband shot his wife before attempting to take his own life. He was transferred to hospital and remains in critical condition.
Forensic experts collected bullet casings and fingerprints from the scene as ordered by the Public Prosecution, which also instructed the coroner to conduct an autopsy. Following the medical examination, the prosecution authorized the burial of the victim’s body.
Authorities in Alexandria continue to gather evidence and hear witness testimonies to determine the circumstances and motives behind the crime.
