Şenyaşar family: We demand justice for everyone

On the 826th day of their sit-in protest for justice, Emine Şenyaşar and Ferit Şenyaşar said, “If Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç does not meet our demand, we will hold their sit-in in front of the Ministry of Justice.”

Riha (Urfa) - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of former AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in Pirsûs (Turkish: Suruç) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 826th day.

In the morning, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, Green Left Party Urfa MP, came in front of the Urfa Courthouse from their home in Pirsûs to seek justice by unfurling a banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family”.

‘Injustice still persists’

Making a speech in front of the courthouse, Ferit Şenyaşar said, “We have been struggling for justice for five years. My mother has been holding a sit-in protest in front of this courthouse demanding justice for her murdered husband and two sons for more than two years. All senior officials of the state know that the struggle of my mother is a right struggle. However, injustice still persists.”

Mentioning the speeches of Turkey’s new Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç at conferences, Ferit Şenyaşar said, “He talks about Turkey's second century. He says, ‘Turkey’s second century will be the century of justice’. He says, ‘Justice delayed is justice denied’. While the Justice Minister talks about justice in his speeches, he does not see how the mother (Emine Şenyaşar) has been holding a sit-in in front of the Urfa Courthouse for more than two years.”

In his speech, Ferit Şenyaşar said that they would hold their sit-in protest for justice in front of the Ministry of Justice in Ankara if Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç did not meet their demand for justice. “We will keep struggling until justice is ensured.”

 ‘I demand justice for everyone’

Emine Şenyaşar also made a speech, saying that they have been demanding justice for more than two years.

“I have been demanding justice in front of the courthouse despite the snowy and warm weather. I demand justice not only for my family but also for everyone. If my son (Fadıl Şenyaşar, who has been held in the Elazığ prison) has not been released, I will go to Ankara and hold the sit-in there.”

‘My son must be released’

Calling for the release of her son Fadıl Şenyaşar, Emine Şenyaşar said, “My son must be released. My son should come home now.”
