5 people arrested in Sanandaj for participating in Newroz celebrations

Kurdish activist Shanu Mohammadi and her husband Saheb (Arivan) Shakeri were arrested in Sanandaj on Sunday by Iran’s security forces and taken to an unknown location for participating in Newroz celebrations.

News Center- Iranian authorities have escalated their crackdown on the Kurdish people for celebrating Newroz.

On Sunday, Iran’s security forces conducted a house raid in Sanandaj, arresting Kurdish activist Shanu Mohammadi and her husband Saheb (Arivan) Shakeri and three other people identified as Shirowan Heidari, Idris Heidari and Sirowan Hatami and taking them to an unknown location.

The charges against them and where they were taken are still unknown.

At least 41 Kurdish people, including six children, have been arrested in the cities of Urmia, Oshnavieh, Sardasht, Saqqez, Marivan, Sanandaj, Piranshahr, and Kermanshah for participating in Newroz celebrations, the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights reported on Sunday.
