Women’s initiatives calls for accelerating the peace process and solving the Kurdish issue in Turkey

Amid ongoing political and social tensions in Turkey and North Kurdistan, Women’s voices demanding the revival of the peace process and the opening of a new chapter of democratic solutions are escalating.

News Center – The women’s initiative “ I Need Peace” called for accelerating efforts to achieve peace in Turkey and North Kurdistan, affirming that addressing the Kurdish issue can no longer tolerate further delay, and the any serious political path must place women’s demands at the core of its priorities.

Rosa Kahya, a member of the initiative, explained that women are a fundamental party to the conflict, both in terms of their direct exposure to violence and violations during years of war, and in terms of the role they have played in preserving the social fabric.

She warned that continued disregard for the violations suffered by women will keep the wounds of war open, calling for revealing the truth and holding those responsible for the crimes committed accountable.

She explained that the initiative “We Insist on Peace” has already presented a series of proposals to the parliamentary committee tasked with examining the Kurdish issue, but these proposals -especially those related to crimes against women and children- were not fully included in the official reports, which she considered evidence of the continued marginalization of women’s voices in the political process.

She stressed in conclusion that any genuine peace process must be accompanied by comprehensive democratic reforms, including the enhancement of rights and freedoms and ensuring the participation of all parties in shaping the country’s future, affirming that women must be an essential part of the “Peace and Democratic Society” path to ensure its sustainability and effectiveness.

The "I Need Peace" initiative is a feminist movement and gathering founded in Turkey, comprising a coalition of Kurdish feminist and human rights activists. It aims to unify women's struggle, demand social peace, condemn wars and violence, and find a peaceful solution to the issue.
