Women of Halabja learn karate for self-defense

Young women of Halabja are interested in karate, one of the martial arts for self-defense. Many women, who learned karate in Halabja, are ready to become instructors for karate.

Halabja- Karate, one of the martial arts for self-defense, is popular nowadays. Many young women learn karate to defend themselves against all forms of violence. Many parents also want their children to learn this art. Halabja Karate Team placed 3rd among 13 countries in the International championship held in Tehran. Five young women, who learned karate in Halabja, are ready to become instructors for karate.
Eyup Ehmed, a karate instructor in Halabja, told us the team was formed in Halabja in 2016. In the beginning, the team had a few students but now it has 109 students aged from 12 to 30. Eyup emphasized that the karate team has achieved good results in Iraqi and international competitions.
Women are ready to be instructors
Ayinde Mehemed has worked as a karate instructor of the Halabja Karate Team for three years. “The number of people, who want to learn this art, is increasing every day,” she said. Selar Zeynedin has a brown belt in karate and she has practiced this martial art for five years. Selar is working for being an instructor soon.
“I will work until I earn a black belt”
Derya Sirwan is a beginner in karate. She said, “Karate is not just for men. Parents should send their daughters to learn karate. I will work until I earn a black belt.”
