Performance by 100 female Taekwondo athletes against violence

On March 6, 100 female Taekwondo athletes will take the stage in Qamishlo city of NE Syria to show women how to protect themselves against violence within the scope of International Women’s Day events.

Qamishlo – Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and it has been practiced for years by people to defend and protect themselves. Particularly, women have participated in Taekwondo courses to know how to protect themselves. Taekwondo is also one of the common defense methods of women in North-East Syria. 100 female Taekwondo athletes will take the stage in Qamishlo on March 6 within the scope of International Women’s Day events.
“We will show defense techniques on the stage”
Dilyar Hisên, person in charge for Roj Women’s Taekwondo Team, told us they will show defense techniques to women, “100 female Taekwondo athletes will take the stage within the scope of International Women’s Day events organized by the Cizre Young Women Movement and the Sports Association. We have received taekwondo training for a long time. This is the first time for us to perform with 100 female athletes.” Hisên told us that they want to give the message of how women can defend themselves with taekwondo, which is among the defense methods of women against increasing male violence all over the world.
“Women shouldn’t bow to pressures”
Stating that women break social taboos with their own will, Hisên said, “We also faced challenges but we managed to overcome all of these by struggling. Women shouldn’t give up, they shouldn’t bow to pressures. Your determination brings success. As we struggle against challenges, we will succeed. All women should receive self-defense training.
