The People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) has applied to the Sub-Commission of the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission to hold an emergency meeting for visiting Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imrali prison.
News Center- People’s Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) MPs have applied to the Sub-Commission on the Rights of the Convicts and Arrestees affiliated to the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission to visit Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held in Imrali F Type High Security Closed Prison.
“Our MPs have requested that the commission holds an emergency meeting for a visit to Imrali prison to put an end to torture and protect law, judicial decisions and human values,” the DEM said in a statement.
Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan has not been allowed to see his lawyers and family members for 33 months.
Pointing to the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan, the statement said, “The Sub-Commission must take an immediate action and organize a visit to Imrali Prison in order to put an end to torture. If the commission fails to fulfill its obligations, it will not be the commission protecting human rights but a protector and maintainer of the torture system. We call on the Sub-Commission on the Rights of the Convicts and Arrestees to take immediate action.”
