Kobanî- From the beginning of 2022, Turkey has been launching simultaneous military operations in north-eastern Syria and Federal Kurdistan Region. The guarantor powers and the Syrian, Iraqi governments, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) have remained silent against the Turkish state's air and ground attacks.

Democratic Union Party (PYD) Women’s Council member Almaz Romi answered our questions about the attacks of the Turkish state and the silence of international forces in the region.

The Turkish state changed its attack methods in 2022 and increased the level of attacks, what do you think about these attacks?

The Turkish state increases its attacks on north-eastern Syria and regions in Southern Kurdistan. It has attacked these regions because of its intolerance against the Autonomous Administration and the failure of its plans. Everyone knows that the projects of the Turkish state, ISIS, and many other forces were defeated by YPJ, YPG, and SDF fighters in Kobanî. For this reason, the anger of the Turkish state increased and it mobilized its army to occupy Afrin, Serêkanî, and Girê Spî. Now, it aims to expand the occupation. The Turkish state has changed its war methods to benefit from the special war. Drones fly over north-eastern Syria and shell everywhere. Patriots and people who have led the society are targeted in these attacks. The aim of the Turkish state is to create fear among people in order to not support the Autonomous Administration. But our society's bond with the Autonomous Administration, their lands, their martyrs, and their country is very strong, and their bond frustrates the attacks.

Simultaneous attacks are carried out in north-eastern Syria and Federal Kurdistan Region. There are two official governments in Iraq. What are your thoughts about their silence against these attacks?

We just talked about the attacks on north-eastern Syria, but the Turkish state shells many parts of Shengal, Maxmur, and Southern Kurdistan with its warplanes and drones. As everyone knows, the Turkish state is a member of NATO, so it has the heaviest weapons. It violates international law and the territorial integrity of Southern Kurdistan and the Iraqi government with its artillery strikes. But we see that the green light has been given to these attacks of the Turkish state and the Turkish army carries out their attacks easily. Their silence shows their cooperation with the Turkish state, otherwise, they would have stopped the attacks by now. However, the attacks targeting the will of the Yezidis of Shengal and the people of Maxmur continue today.

Next year, the Treaty of Lausanne will expire. It seems that all powers aim to have power in the Middle East, particularly in Syria. What do the people of north-eastern Syria think about that?

The Treaty of Lausanne will expire in 2023. Therefore, all sovereign and hegemonic powers want to benefit from it. The powers in north-eastern Syria want to gain benefits under different names. For example, a leader of ISIS was killed in the areas occupied by the Turkish state. Everyone talked about the killing of Abu Ibrahim al Hashimi but no one asked why he was there. The silence of the countries such as the Turkish state, US, Russia, Iran, Baathist regime confirms that they aim to achieve great results by 2023. In the midst of these agreements and plans, we, as the people of NE Syria, are on full alert. We know very well why each force gets in touch with us. We have the power to protect our people and govern our region, and we have sacrificed thousands of lives to build this system. For this reason, we will never leave our lands.
