Women released after being detained

Eight members of Ankara Women’s Platform were detained by police while issuing a statement in front of the Ankara Courthouse. The women have been reportedly released.

Ankara –Ankara Women’s Platform protested discussion on withdrawing from the Istanbul Convention in Turkey on August 12, 2020. A lawsuit was opened against 33 women for saying “Istanbul Convention should be implemented”. The platform members wanted to issue a statement in front of the Ankara Courthouse before the hearing. But police attacked them with tear gas and detained eight women. Eight women have been reportedly released after the procedures at the police station completed.

Names of released women are; Lawyer Sevinç Hocaoğulları, Buse Üçer, Aysun Gençtanır, Gülçin Polat, Sibel Göktaş, Esma Çağlak, İlay Kadiroğlu and Sıla Yılmaz.
