Hatice Demir, a member of the Diyarbakır Bar Association, criticizes the report prepared by the Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK) about jailed Kurdish politician Aysel Tuğluk, who is diagnosed with dementia, “The report includes indictment and this overshadows the scientific nature of the report. The report was prepared according to Aysel Tuğluk’s political stance.”

MEDİNE MAMEDOĞLU

Amed – The Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK) concluded in their report that Kurdish woman politician Aysel Tuğluk, who has been kept in the Kocaeli Kandıra F-Type Closed Prison despite being diagnosed with dementia, “can stay in prison” even though the medical report prepared by a hospital says she “cannot stay in prison”. Many women organizations, NGOs and international figures demand immediate release of Aysel Tuğluk because she cannot stay in prison due to her health conditions.

“The report prepared by ATK about Aysel Tuğluk is unscientific”

Diyarbakır Bar Association Board member Hatice Demir told JINHA that The medical report prepared by ATK about Aysel Tuğluk is unscientific and against ethical rules. Pointing out that the report wasn’t prepared to determine whether Aysel Tuğluk would remain in prison alone, Hatice Demir said that the report was prepared to determine whether she could defend herself due to her health problems in the Kobanî case.

“The institution made a decision without evaluating the medical data”

Stating that the medical report does not contain anything about Aysel Tuğluk’s imprisonment, Hatice Demir said, “The ATK prepared a medical report saying that Aysel Tuğluk has "full criminal liability” without evaluating any medical data about her. While the ATK should have evacuated the current health condition of Aysel Tuğluk for her release, it avoided doing this.”

“It is against medical ethics”

Stating that the long information about the indictment against Aysel Tuğluk in the report overshadows the scientific nature of the report, Hatice Demir underlined that the report was prepared according to Aysel Tuğluk’s political stance. “Including information about the indictment against Aysel Tuğluk in the report is unscientific and against medical ethics.”
