Jordan- Rabiha Al-Safadi, a member of the Jordanian Women Solidarity Institute, says that Jordanian women have been subjected to many legal discrimination. She thinks Jordan needs to amend its discriminatory laws in order to eliminate gender-based violence and gender discrimination.

“Projects should be developed”

Pointing out that women have received more support since the establishment of NGOs in the country, Rabiha Al-Safadi said, “The number of women participating in economy, politics and social life has been increasing. Although women show great interest in education, they have not reached the desired level yet. Small and medium-sized projects should be developed in order to promote women’s participation in the labor force and women's economic empowerment.

“Women need more fair laws”

Emphasizing that the Beijing Conference and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) are important to build a better future for women, Rabiha Al-Safadi said, “Women need more fair laws so that they can be more active in society and in the labor force. The discriminatory laws must be amended or removed.”
