Amed - On June 8, 2022, Özcan Yıldız attacked and tried to kill his wife Rozerin Yıldız in the Hani district of Diyarbakır province after she asked for a divorce. Rozerin Yıldız was seriously injured and taken to a hospital while Özcan Yıldız was arrested. She has been fighting for her life at the hospital for five months. An investigation was launched into the incident. After the investigation was completed, the Hani Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment. In the indictment, the prosecutor’s office demands a reduced penalty for Özcan Yıldız because “It was an attempt,” to commit a crime and “He acted in uncontainable anger”.
The familiar statement by the perpetrator
The perpetrator Özcan Yıldız will stand trial for “Deliberately attempting to kill his wife”. The indictment includes the investigation report at the scene, the statements of witnesses and the statement of the perpetrator but not the statements of Rozelin Yıldız’s parents. In his statement, Özcan Yıldız claimed that he did not want to kill his wife.

One of the witnesses, Abdülvehap Dalçiçek said in his statement that he saw Özcan Yıldız after he left the house saying, “I shot my wife, protect my children.” The investigation reports at the scene stated that the statement of Özcan Yıldız aimed at getting rid of crime.

Mother of three, Rozerin Yıldız had gone to her family home many times after being battered by Özcan Yıldız. Rozerin Yıldız stayed at a women's shelter for a while after being threatened with death by Özcan Yıldız. The first hearing of the trial will be held on December 1, 2022 by the Diyarbakır 1st High Criminal Court.
