Jailed 4 journalists released
The first hearing of the trial of four journalists, who were jailed for reporting on two villagers who had allegedly been thrown out of a military helicopter, was held today. Four journalists have been released from prison.
Van - Adnan Bilen, Cemil Uğur from the Mesopotamia News Agency, Şehriban Abi from Jinnews and journalist Nazan Sala were arrested on October 9, 2020, for reporting on two villagers who had allegedly been thrown out of a military helicopter. The first hearing of the trial of five journalists, including Mesopotamia News Agency reporter Zeynep Durgut, was held today by Van 5th High Criminal Court.

The court has released the journalists under judicial control. The next hearing will be held on July 2. Mesopotamia Female Journalists Platform Spokesperson Ayşe Güney made a press statement and said, “We got this result thanks to the solidarity of the journalists’ organizations and public opinion.”
