8 people sent to prison in relation to murder of Narin
Eight people have been sent to prison in relation to the murder of Narin Güran, whose dead body was found after being missing for 19 days in Amed.
Amed (Diyarbakır)- 8-year-old Narin Güran was reported missing in the Çûlî (Tavşantepe) village of Amed’s Rezan (Bağlar) district on August 21, 2024. Her dead body was found in a sack in a stream near her home after 19 days, September 8. After her dead body was found, 24 people were detained as part of an investigation launched in the murder of Narin Güran. Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to leaving the body of Narin in the stream upon the request of Narin’s uncle Salim Güran was previously sent to prison, while the imam of the village was released from detention. 22 people were referred to the prosecutor's office after being questioned at the gendarmerie.
Following the approximately 12-hour interrogation, 10 people were released from custody. The names of the released people are: Narin's father Arif Güran, her cousinsOğulcan Güran, Osman Güran and Devran Güran, her sister-in-law Melek Güran, her uncles Barış Güran, Memduh Güran and Halil İbrahim Güran, her aunt Azize Kaya, and Salim Güran's worker Ömer Yıldız.
The prosecutor referred 12 people to the Court of Peace on Duty; Narin’s mother Yüksel Güran and her brother Enes Güran were referred to the court on charges of“Complicity in the murder”; her cousins Muhammet Kaya and Birsen Güran, her sister-in-law Maşallah Güran, Salim Güran’s workers Mehmet Salim Atasoy, Ramazan Atasoy (15), and her aunt’s husband Mehmet Şevik Kaya were referred to the court on charges of “favoring the offender and tampering with evidence”; Narin’s uncle Fuat Güran faces the charges of “tampering with evidence”.
In addition, Narin’s cousin Melike Güran was referred to the court on charges of “favoring the offender and tampering with evidence” and her uncles Kurtuluş Güran and Ömer Faruk Güran were also referred to the court on charges of “Tampering with evidence.”
Her mother and brother sent to prison
The court ruled Narin’s mother Yüksel Güran, her brother Enes Güran, her cousins Muhammet Kaya and Birsen Güran, her uncle Fuat Güran, her sister-in-law Maşallah Güran and Salim Güran’s worker Mehmet Salim Atasoy and her aunt’s husband Mehmet Şevik Kaya to be held in pretrial detention.
Narin’s uncles Kurtuluş Güran and Ömer Faruk Güran and her cousin Melike Güran have been released under judicial control, Salim Güran’s worker Ramazan Atasoy (15) has been released without judicial control.
