Idlib - The ongoing political crisis in Idlib, which is under the occupation of the Turkish state and its mercenaries and the attacks of the Damascus government, affects every person. Due to the ongoing attacks, many people, who were forced to leave their homes, live in IDPs camps. The anti-democratic situation in the city inflicts deep wounds the most on the lives of women. The despotic, militaristic policies formed according to the interests of the Turkish state and its factions cause the people to suffer from poverty, misery, rape, kidnapping, prostitution and death. The future remains uncertain in the city, where people cannot meet even their basic needs.

She becomes a hairdresser by watching videos

In Idlib, where even surviving is a miracle, some women have to earn a living for their children and families. While unemployed women receive no support from any organizations, some women create job opportunities for themselves to earn a living for their children. 32-year-old Rania Al-Krum looked for a job for a long time to make an income for her three children since her spouse is in prison. However, she could not find one. Despite that, she never gave up and created a job opportunity for herself; she watched online videos to be a hairdresser. After a while, she began to work as a hairdresser in the camp.

She turns her tent into a class

29-year-old Faryal Al-Razi is a teacher living in the camp. She also could not find a job although she looked for a job for a long time to make an income for her two children. Then, she decided to turn her tent into a classroom to teach math and reading and writing to the children aged from five to 10. She thinks the classroom is a good opportunity for children who drop out because schools are far away from the camp.

“Unemployment women are subjected to violence”

Psychologist Rahaf al-Qadi (41) told NuJINHA that unemployment affects society and causes serious psychological problems. “Unemployment women are subjected to psychological and physical violence and exploitation. Despite everything, women do not give up and they create job opportunities for themselves,” she said.
