Pomegranate season in Hawraman

It is pomegranate season in the Hawraman region, which has a unique view in spring, winter, summer, and autumn.

Halabja- Pomegranate season has begun in the Hawraman region, well known for its beautiful landscape, productive people. While women of Hawraman are harvesting pomegranates, they are also making preparation for winter.

During the harvest season, you see completely different rituals and view in the Hawraman region. The hands of women being tired of collecting pomegranates are fully colored bright red.

Harvest time for both pomegranates and walnuts

Naîfe Mehmûd lives in the Tewêla village of Halabja. She has harvested pomegranates for years. “We have harvested pomegranates in our orchard for 10 years. Actually, this season is not only time for harvesting pomegranates but also walnuts. Our hands are now bright red. After harvesting pomegranates, we will begin to harvest walnuts.”

The color of their hands turns brown

After harvesting pomegranates, the villagers begin to collect walnuts from trees. The color of their hands turns brown first and then black. Naîfe Mehmûd told us that they make pomegranate syrup and juice to consume in winter after harvesting pomegranates. “In fact, many products are made of pomegranates, but we can only make syrup and juice. Pomegranate juice is good for health.”
