Fair in Mahabad gets no expected interest
Food and souvenir stands at the fair held in Mahabad, Rojhilat Kurdistan, have not gotten the expected interest due to high prices and low purchasing power.
Mahabad – The fair opened in Mahabad city of Eastern Kurdistan on September 11 will remain open until September 21. At the fair, souvenirs, accessories, flowers, plants and food are exhibited and sold. However, the fair has not gotten the expected interest.
High prices of stands, low income, and high goods prices have negatively affected both the number of visitors and the number of stands. Zahra M., one of the stand owners at the fair, said, “I came from Piranshahr. We sell pickles and lavash (a flatbread) at the fair. We paid 700,000 Iranian rials for the table and 6,5 million for the stand. Although two days have already passed, we have not sold anything.”
Zahra M. complained about less interest in the fair compared to previous years. “Some people just left their stands because there is no interest in their products. Some sleep the whole day because there are no customers.”
