'Security' policies destroy ecology in Kurdish region

Forest fires in the Kurdish region of Turkey, particularly in summer, harm animals and trees. The main reason for the forest fires is military operations launched in the region. The fires that started due to the military operations in Dersim and Şırnak haven't been put out for days.

Dersim -In recent years, forest fires in the Kurdish region in the summer have caused great damage to the ecological structure. In the last week, forest fires started in Dersim, Hakkari, and Şırnak cities lasted for days. While forest fires started in Şırnak and Dersim haven't been put out for a week, four settlements have been destroyed along with hundreds of acres of land.

Forest fire in Dersim continues for 13 days

No state organizations intervened in the forest fires that started in Dersim, Şırnak, and Hakkari cities last week. The forest fire started in the countryside of Dersim’s Hozat district due to military operations hasn’t been put out for 13 days. The forest fire which started in Tanzi (Danzi) and Kurukaymak and Koçeri villages and spread to Karper (Buzlutepe) village, has been put out until now because soldiers don’t allow local people to enter the area. The forest fire has destroyed hundreds of acres of land in the area for 13 days. While local people keep calling on authorities to put out the fire, members of NGOs and ecologists go to the city to put out the fire.
