Women’s organizations condemn assault on female MP in parliament
Tunisian Association of Democratic Women condemned the assault on Member of Parliament Abeer Moussa in parliament.
Tunisia - Abeer Moussa, the head of the Free Destourian Party, was assaulted in parliament by male MPs. The Tunisian Association of Democratic Women today condemned the assault in a statement.
“We strongly condemn the assault on Abeer Moussa, who is an honorable MP of the coalition, in the parliament,” the organization said in its statement. The association called on the parliament to take urgent and necessary measures to ensure the safety of female representatives in order to prevent such incidents from happening again.
In the statement, the association stated that the immunity of the male MP who assaulted his colleague must be lifted.
The Tunisian League of Women Voters, an association founded in 2011, also made a written statement to condemn the attack on Abeer Moussa. In the statement, the association demanded the end of violence against women and called on the authorities to take legal action against the male MP who assaulted Abeer Moussa.
