Cairo- Discrimination against women deprives them of many rights. Some women’s initiatives have been carrying out activities to struggle against discrimination against women, reactionary society and patriarchal mentality. They provide training and job opportunities and psychological support to women.
Journalist Noha Lamlom, a member of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), has launched an initiative named “Women Journalists for Each Other”. “My aim at launching the initiative is to solve problems faced by women journalists in Egypt. Now we have a WhatsApp group for women journalists who attend the training workshops held by our initiative. We also have a Facebook page. The initiative creates a space for women journalists to share their experiences and problems faced by them to overcome challenges against them and support each other,” she told NuJINHA.
Women support women
Lawyer Heba Adel, the head of the Egyptian Female Lawyers’ Initiative, told us they suggested to a group of women who used to make handicrafts to launch an initiative to support each other. “The initiative has supported many women, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic to earn an income for their families. When we look at the election campaigns for women, we can see that women’s support for women is unconditional,” she told us.
Not only women lawyers or journalists have launched initiatives to support each other but also women working in other sectors have also launched initiatives on social media to provide unconditional support to women.
