‘We will keep resisting for an honorable life’

“We will keep resisting for an honorable life,” said Asom İsmail, one of the displaced women of Afrin living in a camp of Shahba for six years.

RAPERÎN BEKIR

Shahba- When the Turkish state and Turkish-backed faction occupied Afrin, Asom İsmail had to leave her home in the Rajo town of Afrin with her family. For six years, 40-year-old Asom İsmail, mother of three, has lived in the Berxwedan camp, an internally displaced people (IDPs) camp in Shahba.

‘We had to leave everything behind due to the occupation’

“We had to leave everything, including our home and agricultural lands, behind due to the occupation,” said Asom Ismail while talking about their life in Afrin. “For six years, we have lived in a tent. We face many difficulties both in summer and winter.” Asom İsmail earns a living by selling salep, a hot milk drink with cinnamon, and other drinks. “I make salep and other drinks at night and begin to sell them in the morning.”

‘We will endure all kinds of difficulties for our rights’

Asom İsmail pointed out that they were targeted by the Turkish state in Shahba. “The Turkish state aims to break our resistance and will by carrying out attacks on Shahba. Despite all the attacks, we keep resisting the Turkish state.

“As the displaced people of Afrin, we will endure all kinds of difficulties for our rights. We will resist until Afrin is liberated from the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions.”
