Amed – Women stand on their own feet by working in every sphere of life. Fatoş Yürek is one of the women who develop themselves in their daily life and turn their talents into a profession. She learned how to make handicrafts when she was a child. Now, she makes a living by making Amigurumi toys.
For my economic freedom…
Fatoş Yürek learned how to make crafts when she was a child and she decided to make a living by making Amigurumi toys. “In the beginning, I didn’t make these toys. I began to work when my brother had to leave home due to political reasons. When I was seven years old, I started learning how to make lace with a needle and knit things. Then, I improved myself by making other things. When people saw that I was producing handcraft, they began to give orders. After I got married, I kept producing something and selling them in order to stand on my own feet. Now, I have a son and we don’t need anyone to live.”
She receives orders on social media platforms
Fatoş now makes Amigurumi toys; she also sews dresses of the toys and sells them on social media platforms due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “I became interested in Amigurumi toys after working on handcrafts. I began to make different Amigurumi toys by using different yarns. I do the housework in the day, make toys at night. I make, toys, bags, bracelets and many things.  I opened a shop to sell toys, bags, bracelets but I had to close my shop due to the pandemic. But I never give up. I keep making the toys at home. I sell the Amigurumi toys, bags, and bracelets on social media platforms now. I receive the orders on social media,” Fatoş told us.
“I work and make a living”
