Alarming rise in divorce rates in Algeria
Increasing unilateral divorce rates in Algeria is alarming. Financial problems are the most significant factors that lead to divorce and divorces affect children the most.

Algeria- According to the latest report issued by Algeria's Ministry of Justice, the number of divorce cases seriously increased in the first six months of 2021. Most divorce cases were filed by men; men have a unilateral right to divorce without explanation. The increase in unilateral divorce rates in Algeria affects women and children the most. According to the figures, more than 100,000 divorce cases were filed in one and a half years, 10,000 divorce cases were recorded in the first six months of 2021. While the number of divorce cases was 13,000 in 2019, the number of divorce cases increased to 15,000 in 2020.
The rise in divorce cases causes danger for Algerian society. According to law, men have a unilateral right to divorce without explanation and this causes the rise in unilateral divorce rates. Algerian human rights defenders warn that the rise in divorce cases, which affects children negatively, should not be ignored.
