Shengal- Yazidis celebrate “Çarşema Serê Nîsanê (Wednesday at the beginning of April)”, also known as Çarşema Sor (Red Wednesday), on the first Wednesday after April 13 each year to mark the creation of the world and the start of life on earth. It is also the first day of the year for Yazidis.
The Yazidis believe that water and land were separated from each other and nature became greener on that day. The boiled and dyed eggs are the symbols of this festival. This year, the festival will be celebrated by the Yazidis on April 20.
“The joy of the children made us happy”
The Yazidi Free Women's Movement (TAJÊ) organized an event for children in the Xanasor town of Shengal as part of the celebrations for the Çarşema Sor. The children who participated in the event sang songs and had a fun day.
Teacher Basime Sedi spoke to NuJINHA and said, “We wanted to make children happy on the occasion of Çarşema Serê Nisanê. We had a good day with them. The joy of the children made us happy. We want our children to grow up with Yazidi culture.”
