Yarsani Kurds come together for Qawltas celebration

After three-day fasting, Yarsani Kurds came together for Qawltas celebration and sat at the table of Sultan Sahak symbolizing abundance.

Gahvare- On October 31, the followers of Yarsan faith from Kurdistan and Iran gathered in the Toshami village of Gahvareh, Kermanshah province, for Qawltas celebration. This celebration, one of the ancient rituals and the most important celebration of the Yarsanis, is organized after a three-day fasting.

The celebration was participated by many people from the village, cities of Kermanshah province, Qazvin, Kelardasht, Hamedan, Paveh, Javanrud and Marivan. Women and men wearing their traditional clothes exhibited a magnificent tambourine performance.

Then, they sat at the table of Sultan Sahak, symbolizing abundance. Yarsanism says that men and women have equal rights. Therefore, the celebration was prepared and attended by women and men.

Yarsanism is an inherited, syncretic religion founded by Sultan Sahak in the late 14th century in western Iran. The celebration is held every year to remember the resistance of Sultan Sahak and his allies against the invaders.
