Theatre course for young people in Shahba

The Theatre Community of the Afrin-Shahba Region Culture and Art Movement organized a course named, “Avakirina Lîstokyan” to train new theatre players.

Shahba- The Theatre Community of the Afrin-Shahba Region Culture and Art Movement organized a course named, “Avakirina Lîstokyan” in Shahba between July 16 and September 11. Young people attending the course acted for the first time on the last day of the course.

‘There is no department of theatre at university’

NuJINHA spoke to the teachers and young women attending the theatre course organized by the community. Zeyneb Mihemed, a theatre teacher of the community, told us that they organized the course named “Avakirina Lîstokvan” to promote theatre culture among young people. “We decided to organize this course because there is no department of theatre at Rojava University. The young people, who attended the course, performed in a theatre play named, “Gera Pêşerojê” telling the effects of technology on human morality and values. They will also perform this play at the Mîtan Theatre Festival.”

‘I am more interested in acting now’

Emel Şêxo, one of the course attendees, has been interested in acting for years. “Thank to the course, I am more interested in acting now,” she said, adding:

“We performed a theatre play on the last day of the course. I acted an old woman character in the play. We completed the course despite all difficult conditions. We aim to perform Kurdish theatre plays all around the world to represent our people in theatre. I am a student and balance my education with my acting career. We do not feel tired and forget all obstacles when we act.”

‘I learned how to stand on stage’

Evîn Xelîl, another course attendee, told us that she learned many things from the course. “For instance, I learned how to stand on stage. We learned many things about theatre. Kurdish players should be known worldwide.”
